EnglishAll students are required to complete four required English credits. Required courses may include English I, English II, English III, and English IV, or any of their pre-advanced, LEAP or Advanced Placement equivalents. Pre-advanced Placement refers to attitudes and strategies, depth and understanding of course content; it does not define the particular works to be studied. Students in Pre-advanced Placement and Advanced Placement classes must be prepared to do rigorous homework assignments that demand considerable time outside of class hours. All Pre-Advanced Placement and Advanced Placement courses require the completion of summer reading/writing projects. For students with limited English proficiency, requirements for English I and II may be satisfied by English ESL I and II. Everyone is required to take English III and IV. English elective courses do NOT satisfy the four-credit English requirement. All students enrolled in English II must take the State mandated English End-of-Course (EOC) exam. English I and English II or English II and English III may NOT be taken concurrently. English III and English IV may be taken concurrently when a senior will graduate at the end of the term.
