Note: No more than two (2) credits in physical education, or physical education waiver, may be used to satisfy state graduation requirements. All students are required to complete successfully at least a half (1/2) credit health class for graduation.

1215 Principles of Athletic Training - 1/2 - 1 Credit

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: None

This course will prepare the student to use basic first aid, taping, and bandaging techniques used in the prevention and care of athletic injuries.

3000 Health Education - 1/2 Credits

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: None

This course is concerned with the health and wellness of human beings -- nutrition, proper care and maintenance of the body, first aid and safety, and making health decisions.

3005 Advanced Health Education - 1/2 Credits

Grade 11 - 12
Prerequisite: Health Education

This course provides the student with the opportunity to develop knowledge for becoming an intelligent consumer. It is designed to aid the students in gaining an understanding of their mental and social growth.

3010 Physical Education I: Foundations of Personal Fitness - ½ Credits

Grade 10 - 12

Prerequisite: None

Foundations of Personal Fitness students will acquire the knowledge and skills for movement that provide the foundations for enjoyment, continued social development through physical activity, and access to a physically-active lifestyle. the student is expected to apply physiological principles to improve health-related fitness to reduce the risk of hypokinetic diseases.

3015 Physical Education II: Aerobic Activities / Recreational Dance - 1/2 Credits

Grade 10 - 12
Prerequisite: Physical Education I: Foundations of Personal Fitness

Aerobic activity students will be exposed to a variety of activities that promote health related fitness. The student is expected to exhibit a level of competency in two or more aerobic activities that may include aerobic dance, jogging, power walking, recreation dance, and step aerobics. A major expectation will be to design a personal fitness program that uses aerobic activities that develops the ability to participate confidently. Students recovering from knee or ankle injuries should not be encouraged to sign up for this class. Persons with heart, asthma, or breathing related problems must have a medical release.

3020 Physical Education III: Individual Sports - 1/2 Credits

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: Physical Education I: Foundations of Personal Fitness

Students will participate in a wide range of individual activities and sports that can be perused for a lifetime. The student is expected to exhibit a level competency in two or more individual sports or activities that develops the ability to participate confidently.

3030 Physical Education IV: Team Sports - 1/2 Credits

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: Physical Education I: Foundations of Personal Fitness

Students enrolled in Team Sports are expected to develop heath-related fitness and an appreciation for team work and fair play thus reinforcing the concept of incorporating physical activity into a lifestyle beyond high school.

3035 Physical Education Waiver / Varsity Cheerleading - 1 Credit

Grade 10 - 12
Prerequisite: Selection by tryouts and judging

This course includes learning and practicing cheerleading skills and students for athletic events and training in various areas of rhythms, gymnastics, and tumbling. This course is offered for 18 weeks for one (1) credit.

3040 Physical Education Waiver / Jr. Varsity Cheerleading - 1 Credit

Grade 10 - 11 Prerequisite: Selection by tryouts and judging

This course includes learning and practicing cheerleading skills and students for athletic events and training in various areas of rhythms, gymnastics, and tumbling. This course is offered for 18 weeks for one (1) credit.

3045 Physical Education Waiver / Freshman Cheerleading - 1 Credit

Grade 9 Prerequisite: Selection by tryouts and judging

This course includes learning and practicing cheerleading skills and students for athletic events and training in various areas of rhythms, gymnastics, and tumbling. This course is offered for 18 weeks for one (1) credit.

3050 Physical Education Waiver / Drill Team - 1 Credit (Fall Only)

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: Selection by tryouts and judging

This course includes learning and practicing dance to perform at various athletic events throughout the year. It also includes training in various areas of dance styles and overall conditioning. This course is offered for 18 weeks for one (1) credit.

3055 Dance I - 1 Credit (Spring Only)

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: Fall Drill Team and/or Cheerleading

This course is designed to introduce the student to the fundamentals inherent in all forms of dance. Emphasis is placed on rhythmic movement analysis, kinesthetic awareness, and basic axial and locomotors patterns. Two nine weeks in this course will satisfy the requirements for Fine Arts and may be used as a Physical Education Waiver.

3060 Dance I - 1/2 - 1 Credit

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: None

This course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to experience, in-depth, various styles of dance. Curriculum will include the history and rules of dance, dance etiquette and terminology. Two nine weeks in this course will satisfy the requirements for Fine Arts and may be used as a Physical Education Waiver.

3080 External Physical Education - 1 Credit

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: See Guidelines and Application

External Physical Education is an option for students in Grade 9 - 12. Guidelines and applications are available from the student's counselor. The purpose of the program is to accommodate students who are making a serious effort to develop high-level capabilities and to allow them to be involved in an External Physical Education program that provides training exceeding that offered in the school district. Only those students involved in the activities of swimming, tennis, ballet, gymnastics, art skating, equestrian, or ice skating will be considered for the External Physical Education program.

3085 Adaptive Physical Education - 1/2 - 2 Credits

Grade 9 - 12
Prerequisite: Diagnostic approval and ARD placement

A course designed to meet individual needs for physical education.

8120 Health Science Technology I (Medical Careers Exploration) - 1 Credit
