Constitution of the Lewisville High School Chapter of the Junior Statesmen
Preamble
We, as students of the Lewisville High School, commit to educating today's youth in the process of true democracy, to maintain an environment of mutual understanding in which students can freely speak their voices, and an environment where those voices will be duly heard, and to pursue the world around us, a greater respect of mutual opinions, do hereby ordain and establish this Constitution of the Junior Statesmen of America.
Article I: Title
- The name of this organization shall be the LHS Junior Statesmen of America. The organization may also be referred to as JSA.
Article II: Membership
- Section 1: All members of the Junior State shall have equal protection under this Constitution and shall not be denied any rights or privileges entitled to them by the law without proper action to the law established within this Constitution.
- Section 2: Memberships within the Junior State shall be granted to any high school student who has paid the annual Membership Tax and belongs to a Junior State Chapter. A high school student shall be defined as one in grades 9-12.
- Section 3: A junior State chapter may be formed by a minimum of eight students of a high school who have paid the annual Membership Tax. These school sponsored chapter governments shall not deny the citizens thereof a republican form of government.
Article III: Officers
- Section 1: All members of the Junior State shall have equal protection under this Constitution and shall not be denied any rights or privileges entitled to them by the law without proper action to the law established within this Constitution.
- Section 2: The term of the officers shall start June 1 and end the following May 31. In the case of a vacant position, the President may appoint a replacement with the approval of a majority of the chapter. If the president resigns or is impeached, the Vice President becomes President.
- Section 3: There shall be four elected officers:
- A. President is chief executive officer of the chapter and is responsible for representing the chapter at all events. The president will preside over all meetings and be a member of all committees. (S)he is responsible for running the chapter's educational program.
- B. The Vice President assists the President and becomes president if there is a vacancy in that position.
- C. The Secretary will keep minutes of all the meetings, and will record and maintain all chapter records.
- D. The Treasurer will be in charge of all financial matters of the chapter. The Treasurer will collect money and keep records of members attending state and regional Junior State events. (S)he will prepare a financial report ready at all chapter meetings.
- Section 4 : Any officer may be removed by a two-thirds vote of chapter members present and voting, provided that a fourteen day notice has been given to consider the matter. Grounds for removal shall be conduct deemed detrimental to the JSA organization at LHS.
- Section 5: Presidential appointments must be confirmed by the officers with a two-thirds vote.
Article IV: Activities
- Section 1: The chapter shall meet a minimum of twice a month during the school year. Meetings may be called by either the President or the Teacher-Advisor.
- Section 2: All meetings shall run according to Parliamentary Procedure.

Article VI: Ratification
This constitution shall take effect upon ratification by a two-thirds vote of the members of the chapter, and upon the approval of the Junior State Governor.
