is or how beneficial it can be to them in college and in life.
An article in "U.S. News and World Report" stated that,
among Ivy League schools, high school forensics (speech and debate)
is the most prestigious activity to list on a college application.
They place its importance above sports and community service activity.
Colleges value forensics for good reasons.
First, forensics is the art of communication. Communication,
verbal, spoken, and written, is vital to success in life. If
you can communicate you can convey your thoughts and plans more effectively.
This secures success in many jobs requiring interpersonal relationships.
