National Honor Society
Membership Selection Procedure
- Students' academic records will be reviewed to determine scholastic eligibility. Students must have 9.0 GPA on the 12 point scale as a minimum requirement for eligibility. (Minimum grade average on ranking system adopted by the board on May, 1995, to be determined.)
- Students who are eligible scholastically who have attended Lewisville High School at least one previous term will be notified and told that for further consideration for selection to the National Honor Society Chapter, they must complete the Student Activity Information Form. Students must be involved in at least one co-curricular or community activity to be eligible for consideration for membership.
- All faculty members will be invited to make comments on candidates and to evaluate the leadership, character, and service of candidates.
- The Faculty Council (five faculty members appointed by the principal) will review the Student Activity Information Form and faculty input along with any other verifiable information about each candidate. Candidates receiving a majority vote of the faculty council will be invited to membership and inducted into the chapter.
Dismissal Procedure
- The procedure for dismissal shall be determined by the faculty council.
- A written description of the dismissal procedure shall be available to interested parties.
- Members who fall below standards which were the basis for their selection shall be promptly warned in writing by the chapter advisor and given a reasonable amount of time to correct the deficiency, except that, in the case of flagrant violation of the school rules or civic laws, a member does not necessarily have to be warned.
- If, at the end of a term, the member's grade point average falls below 9.0 on the 12 point scale or below the average determined to be minimum on the new scale, the member will be notified of this fact and will have a period of one term in which to raise his or her grade point average to the required level.
- In all cases of impending dismissal, a member shall have the right to a hearing before the faculty council.
- A member who has been dismissed may appeal the decision of the faculty council under the same rules for disciplinary appeals in the school district.
- A student who is dismissed or who resigns may never again become an Honor Society Member.
